The sacred day of Guru Purnima is a time to bow with reverence to the Guru, who holds a status equivalent to that of the Divine. It is a day to remember and honor the Guru’s infinite greatness, a festival of devotion and surrender to the Guru. Today, there is an utmost need to revive the age-old Guru–disciple tradition to make the nation wise, enlightened, and powerful. In the absence of a Guru’s guidance, not only is the experience of happiness unattainable, but even the thought of a peaceful life becomes impossible. T
The thirst of the soul for knowledge cannot be ignored for long—Guru Purnima is a divine opportunity to awaken it. Every subtle moment of time and every smallest particle of the universe is infused with the glory of the Guru. One who leads a soul from delusion to the Divine, transforms a disciple from mere existence into divinity, guides one from obstacles to devotion, and installs life into the lifeless—that is the true Sadguru. It is only through surrender at the feet of the Sadguru that a being transitions from sin to worship, from a crow to a swan. Without surrender to the Sadguru, no life can attain greatness.
From Lord Rama to Lord Krishna, all our ideal beings achieved excellence in life only through the grace of their Gurus.
With heartfelt surrender, we offer countless salutations at the divine feet of the Sadguru, who grants devotion to Govind (the Lord) and brings fulfillment to our human existence.
The Guru Gita ( lit. ‘Song of the Guru’) is a Hindu scripture that is said to have been authored by the sage Vyasa. Once Goddess Parvati was eager to learn the Glory of Guru, Lord Shiva replied that though it should not be revealed but as you are my incarnation in the form of Devi Durga, I shall share it with you.
The Guru Gita, part of the Skanda Purana, features Sanskrit shlokas (verses) attributed to Shiva. These verses highlight the importance of the Guru and the path of knowledge and liberation, Guru’s role in guiding disciples towards self-realization and liberation from worldly bondage. Some very well known shlokas where Lord Shiva himself fondly expresses the Glory of Guru :
“Gurureka jagat sarvam Brahma Vishnu Shivatmaka, Guru parataram nasti tasmad sampoojaye gurum.”
This verse states that the Guru is everything, including Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, and that there is nothing greater than the Guru, so the Guru should be worshipped.
“Akhanda mandala karam vyaptam yena characharam, Tat padam darshitam yena tasmai shri gurave namah.”
This verse salutes the Guru who reveals the all-pervading reality that encompasses both the moving and the non-moving. The knowledge given by a guru is the art of awakening, whereas the knowledge given by a teacher is the art of living. And the Practical Knowledge about life is given by our mother, our first Guru. Today I offer my heartfelt salutations with ample gratitude to all my teachers, guides, Gurus, Paramhans Guruji Maharaj & my angelic mother who enlightened my path in past & still have been guiding me. Guru’s benevolence is immeasurable & indescribable. May the sacred festival of Guru Purnima bring auspiciousness and joy to you all.
Guru is Brahma, Guru is Vishnu, Guru is Maheshwara (Shiva);
Guru is verily the Supreme Brahman — salutations to that revered Guru.
